From her
upcoming book
8 to Great: The
Powerful Process for
Positive Change
Don't
worry about the
world coming to
an end today...
It's
already tomorrow
in Australia.
Charles
Schultz
Greetings,
Gratefuls,
I'm excited to
be sharing "The
Three Questions"
with you this
month. (See the
article
below.) But first
let's talk about
the lesson we
all seem to be
learning these
days, how to
face worry and
win!
I
met a
gentleman
last week
whose
biggest
dream was "A
day with no
worries."
Worry felt
like a
shadow he
was living
under, and
in order to
defeat it,
he had to
"fix"
things. The
good news is
that to get
out from
under worry,
the only
thing we
have to fix
is our
focus.
Worry is a
form of fear,
and fear is at
the bottom of
the Power
Pyramid.
Yet some of us
have come to
believe it wards
off danger "like
a magic amulet,"
according to
Emotional
Intelligence
author Daniel
Goleman. As a
culture,
we've convinced
ourselves that
worrying about
something will
stop it from
happening,
yet what we
think about we
bring
about. Worry
actually makes
our problems
grow.
We can use our
imagination to
picture what
we want or
to worry. Either
way, every
thought is a
request for more
of the same. And
just as worrying
doesn't feel
good, being
worried
about can
feel almost as
bad.
The
one who worries
is always in
worse shape
than the one
they worry
about.
Abraham-Hicks
Our
options? The
FGH
formula reminds
us to
Forgive, get
Grateful
and have
Hope. We
can unplug from
thoughts
of perturbing
possibilities
and plug into
being thankful
for what we have
while expecting
glorious
surprises ahead.
The list
of all-turn-atives for
our focus are
endless: pet
your dog, feed
your fish, put
on your favorite
CD, put on
your favorite
outfit, take a
nap, take a
hike, change the
channel, change
your hairstyle,
run a race, run
for office, play
eighteen holes,
play the
bongos, hug your
kids, hug a
tree. In other
words, focus on
anything that
feels good.
A
counselor friend
of mine learned
an antidote to
worry from his
dad when
he was eight. He
overheard his
father talking
to their
neighbor at the
feed store in
their farming
community.
"Well, aren't
you worried
about it?" he
heard the
neighbor ask.
"Heck, no.
Not my
problem,"
said his
father.
"Then
whose is it?"
"I got a
man who does
that. I hired
him awhile back
to do all my
worrying for me.
I just don't
have time for
such nonsense."
Hire
yourself a
worryman and
reclaim your
focus today.
Join the
millions who
see life as
a
playground,
and the next
time someone
asks, "How
ya doin?"
you'll be
able to
answer, "better
and
better!"
My
life has
been a
series of
endless
crises...
most
of which
never
happened.
Mark
Twain
How to
Dream
Bigger
with
6-12-5
Since one of the best ways around worrying is dreaming, try out this new dreaming device I call 6-12-5.
Recently a friend of mine was preparing for a huge work exam. I invited him to dream of the following: "What will it feel like 6 months after you've passed it?"
He had fun with that. Then I asked, "What will it feel like 12 months after you've passed it?"
He had even more fun with that. Finally I asked him, "What will it feel like 5 years after you've passed it?"
He was stunned at first. Then, as he warmed up to the broader dream, it became his best feelings yet. The original "test" lost much of its power to concern him. He passed with flying colors!
Are you ready to put your life in high gear? Then try it: 6-12-5! It's a worry wilter and a dream developer all in one. You can be the one who envies others for how "lucky" they are, or you can be the one who is envied. Finesse your focus just a few minutes a day and the finest of good fortunes awaits you!
Blissings,
MK

Educ8tor of the
Month Kent Mann
Takes Risks with
"Reel" Results!
When
Grand Island
Senior High
Principal
Kent
Mann first
heard about
8 to
Great,
he knew it
was a
perfect fit
for
his 2000+
students and
staff.
After
completing
the training
himself, he
trained a
dozen
faculty and
70
upperclassmen
to implement
the program
with his 600
freshmen.
Mid-way
through the
year, the
assessments
showed that
many frosh
were not yet
journaling
from the
heart,
so Dr. Mann
took another
risk. He put
the entire
class in
the auditorium
to show them
the movie
"Freedom
Writers."
"We
were
delighted at
the level of
cooperation from
the
students,"
he told MK.
"And the
comments'
sheets
showed it
made an
impact."
One
student
wrote, "Now
I can see
that
no matter
who you are
or what you
do, there is
someone who
will believe
in you, even
if you don't
believe in
yourself."
Dr.
Kent Mann
believes in
kids. Is it
any wonder he
was recently
voted on to the
Board of
Directors of the
National
Association of
Secondary School
Principals? Congratulations,
Dr. Mann!

The Three Key Questions for Deeper Communication
You are
going to
love
this wonderfully
heart-opening
process
from
Quantum
Learning
Network,
an
education
corporation
out of
California.
First,
select
a
partner
for
the
exercise.
Then
ask
your
partner
three
questions,
one
at a
time,
waiting
for an
answer
before
you
continue.
1) Tell
me
something
I don't
know
about
you.
2) Tell
me
something
you like
about
me.
3) Tell
me
something
we agree
on.
Next
you
and
the
speaker trade
places,
and
they
ask
you
the
questions.
I
have
used
this
with my
son when
our
schedules
were not
allowing
much
together
time. I
have
also
used it
with new
and old
friends
and
shared
it with
thousands
of
couples.
It's
amazing
how open
-hearted
attention
heals.
It
"makes"
love on
the
deepest
level.
Have you
told the
truth in
love
today?
